Synthesis And Properties Of EVA/SiO2 Composite Materials
Kuo-Shien Huang, Yu-Shon Chang, Min-Je Chong
This research dissolves ethylene-vinylacetate (EVA) and tetrahydrofuran (THF) by a co-intermixing method. Nano-graded liquid SiO2 size, in which the surface nature has been modified, is added in for the reaction to proceed at an appropriate temperature to synthesize composite materials. Analysis of related instruments and functional studies suggest the functional group of EVA >C=O, in the composite materials is connected to the residue of SiO2, -OH, by hydrogen bond. The surface form changes as the amount of SiO2 size added increases. Simultaneously, the thermal-resistant property, tensile strength at breakage, and elongation ratio also increase. However, the last two properties gradually decline when the amount of SiO2 size added over 10%, and the composite material’s transparency tends to decrease.
