Synthesis and characterization of halloysite nanotubes/conducting polymer composite in free solvent media

Gholamreza Kiani

Conducting polymer/ halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) composite were synthesized by a mechanochemical reaction in the solid state by milling system. 2, 5- dithienyl pyrrole (SNS), capable of donating electrons is selected as the interfacial modifier for HNT-SNS nanocomposite. HNTs were coatedwith poly 2, 5- dithienyl pyrrole via the in situ chemical oxidation polymerization in the absence of any solvent. The modified HNTs are characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), FTIR (Fourier transform infrared) spectroscopy, X-ray and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). It is showed that the nanotubes were covered with conducting polymer. Our experimental results corroborate the proposed nanocomposite formation. The conductivity of the nanocomposite is found to be 0.066 (S.cm-1) based on our experimental results. TGA analysis showed that HNTs improved thermal stability of nanocomposite. HNTs play a predominant role in providing a new insight for the nanocomposite formation.
