Micro-Structural Characteristics and Mechanical Behaviour of Solution Annealed P/M Duplex Stainless Steels
M. Sudhahar* and R. Mariappan
In this research, the mechanical properties were studied on sintered Duplex Stainless Steels (DSS) with the influence of solution annealing treatment for obtaining equal α/γ phase proportions. The solution annealing treatment was performed at 1150oC in muffle furnace held for one hour soaking and immediately followed by water quench. The optical microstructures and SEM photographs are clearly predicted that duplex regions of approximately equal proportions. And moreover the structure shows the combination of Widmanstatten austenitic and in some area with that allotriomorphic ferritic structure for this approach. The grain growth was obtained on both α/γ regions with precipitation free structures. The mechanical properties of annealed DSS were significantly varied due to changed microstructure after solution annealing.
